ZEISS RECEPTION ESSILOR CRIZAL ANNIVERSARY PARTY 50 May 2017 VisionCareProducts.com VCPN By Michele Silver Despite the damp weather, Vision Expo East in NYC sprung to life with fresh concepts to engage buyers, and a host of manufacturers had plans of their own in place. Sponsored by The Vision Council, mini fashion shows with models clad in all black walked the show floor and then gathered at the Bryant Park lounge with emcee NBC Fashion Editor Jill Martin, who highlighted the trends for colors, shapes, details and lenses. Pop-up talks, mini fashion shows and lounge spaces in which to conduct business or grab a bite to eat created a more intimate show. "It" eyewear designers/deejays Coco & Breezy were ubiquitous figures throughout the show, from spinning at the OWA 20th anniversary awards breakfast to talking to potential new customers at the Eastern States Eyewear booth and conducting a pop-up talk on finding design inspi- ration. Celebrity stylist Kate Young hosted mini makeover sessions at the Tura booth. A new Designer Gallery offered an elegant and fresh environment for emerging designers to distinguish themselves in a curat- ed destination in the Madison Square Park Lounge. Safilo unveiled the win- ning designs from its first ever Parsons Eyewear Design Contest, sponsored a "Women in Optics" breakfast with CEO Luisa Delgado, Nancy Berger, VP, publisher of Marie Claire USA and artist Shantell Martin, and hosted its "American Eyes" photo documentary exhibit that also celebrated the reintroduction of the Elasta and Emozioni collections. Singer, songwriter and eyewear superfan Lisa Loeb was at the Classique Eyewear booth chatting with opticians about her current col- lection. The 2017 Vision Choice Winners went to Specs of Wood for first place; Lunette USA, exclusive U.S. distributor of Zenka Modular Eyewear for second place; and Marcolin Eyewear for third place. Attendees were encouraged to use the hashtag #whyigo on social media during the three-day event.
